Abstract | A new porous-resin-supported calcium sulfate (CaSO4-PSM) material with high-density and high reactivity for chemical heat storage is developed and characterized. The newly developed CaSO4-PSM exhibits a higher reactivity than normal CaSO4. Furthermore, the particle diameter is an important factor for the development of new chemical thermal energy storage (CTES) material. CaSO4-PSM exhibits good performance in the hydration and dehydration processes when used as a CTES material. The hydration reaction rate of the particle with a diameter of 75 mu m is 13.3 times of that of 750 mm, whereas, the dehydration reaction velocity is approximately 1.5 times higher. This finding is due to more abundant favorable pore channels for vapor transport and a larger specific surface area. Aggregation of the CaSO4 particles before and after repetitive operations can be eliminated, and a good durability of the new porous supported thermal energy storage material of CaSO4 can be obtained. |
